A Trip to Epcot!
Now that we live in Florida and are very close to Disney I get a lot of questions about which park is our favorite. Disney has 4 parks; Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Disney Studios. There are also 2 Disney water parks; Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.
By far, our favorite park is Epcot. (Animal Kingdom is a close second.) For this blog post we will look at our most recent visit to Epcot.
The acronym. EPCOT coined by Walt Disney in 1966 means Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. It was opened on October 1 in 1982.
Epcot is twice the size of Magic Kingdom and therefore you can expect to get all of your daily steps in and then some! Most people report getting in well over 30,000 steps in one visit!!
It is virtually impossible to experience all that Epcot has to offer in one visit. When our daughter and son-in-law came for a visit in February we only managed to get through half of it and we spent the ENTIRE day there! Because we have been several times we made sure that they saw the highlights and suggested they go back on another day. We have been to Epcot several times and still find things we didn't know were there.
Epcot is a celebration of all of the progress and innovations and international culture. As you enter the park the first thing you will see is the iconic Epcot sphere. Inside the ride Spaceship Earth takes you on a journey from the beginning of ancient civilization to what things may look like in the future.
The day we went most recently was a beautiful day! It wasn't miserably hot and there was a very gentle breeze. We often will ride Spaceship Earth as soon as we enter the park, depending on how long the wait is. Both Brian and I love this ride.
We then moved on to the World Showcase. This is where several countries have exhibits, restaurants and shops. Every country has an area for children to interact doing a craft or other activity specific to that country. While Epcot is considered to be the more "adult" park the learning opportunities for children is huge! Where else could you find such wide cultural diversity in such a concentrated area? It is fascinating to say the least!
Epcot also has many rides to enjoy. My favorite is "Soarin'". "Soarin'" is a thrilling ride that takes you across the world high above earth as if you are actually flying. One of the reasons I love Disney is that every single detail is thought out. On this particular ride different aromas are released as you "travel". The scent is specific to the area you are flying over. It's a bit of a surprise that this is my favorite ride as I'm not a fan of heights. For some reason, this one doesn't bother me?! Of course there are many other rides to enjoy. Guardians of the Galaxy, Frozen Ever After, Mission Space, (Brian managed to talk me into this ride... ONCE.
